Grade of Cement | Difference between 33, 43 and 53 Grade Cement

grade of cememnt

Grade of cement are mainly based on the compressive strength of cement. Grades of cement are specified by IS 1489-1991. The 33, 43 and 53 Grade are specified.

Question: State meaning of 33, 43 grade and 53 Grades of Cement.

33 Grade of Cement:

The cement having strength 33 N/mm2 after 28 days complete curing, when tested on Compression Testing Machine (CTM). IS Codes for 33 grade IS 269 is used.

Uses:

33 grade cement has high workability and is use for mortar in masonry work and for plastering.

Properties of 33 grades of cement:

Fineness (specific area) – 300 m2/kg.

3 days compressive strength – 16 N/mm2

7 days compressive strength – 22 N/mm2

28 days compressive strength – 33 N/mm2

43 Grades of Cement:

The cement having strength 43 N/mm2 after 28 days complete curing, when tested on Compression Testing Machine (CTM). IS Codes for 43 grade IS 8112 is used.

Uses:

This cement is used in ready mix concrete, PCC and RCC work, frame structure, precast and prestressed concrete, RCC bridges, slip-form construction, Silos and Chimneys.

43 Grade Cement has good workability and it gives better surface finishing.

Properties:

Fineness – 225 m2/kg.

3 days compressive strength- 23 N/mm2

7 days compressive strength- 33 N/mm2

28 days compressive strength- 43 N/mm2

53 Grades of Cement:

The cement having strength 53 N/mm2 after 28 days complete curing when tested on Compression Testing Machine (CTM). IS Codes for 53 grade IS 12269 is used.

Uses

Grade 53 cement is used for concrete sleeper for railway, prestressed girders, industrial building, roads, runway, precast concrete, slip – form construction, RCC Bridge, Lofty building etc.

Properties:

Fineness – 25 m2/kg.

3 days compressive strength- 27 N/mm2

7 days compressive strength – 37 N/mm2

28 days compressive strength- 53 N/mm2

More about 53 grades:

Speedy construction.

Saving in shuttering cost due to early removal.

Low chloride content.

Moderately sulphate resisting.

Less requirement due to high strength and surface area.
